A Tour of the Restaurants in Belt Buckle

Hell. I'll have to go backwards again. . .

July 10 - Monday:

  • Breakfast: A banana. In the car running errands. 12 oz Dasani.
  • Lunch: At Chili's with Mom - had a Quesadilla Salad (Unfortunate Iceberg - I despise iceberg lettuce as a waste of taste and time - topped with corn, black beans, grilled chicken, "Prairie Dust", sprinkled with tortilla crisps and a balsamic vinegar dressing) with this really violently spicy cajun/cayenne/"Prairie Dust" stuff sprinkled liberally atop, which the doofuti server assured me wouldn't be too spicy. Somehow, it became addictive, but caused me to consume immense quantities of medium-sweet tea. I admired Mom's concoction of water with about 4 lemons squeezed into it plus 1 packet of Splenda - quite tasty. Would have concocted mahself one, but Doofuti never buzzed close enough when I was between bites or not connected to mah beverage. Mom, meanwhile, smugly consumed a bowl of Broccoli-Cheese soup (which we agreed was like drinking velveeta sprinkled with broccoli and tomatoes) and a dinner salad (iceberg ladled with Ranch) and felt superior. I think me and the tea came out on top in the Sugar Contest - what do you think? Or maybe I just won the Fat Battle.
  • Snack: a very cold, very tasty 16 oz Sprite, consumed in the midst of a sugar meltdown after shopping extensively at WW.
  • Another Snack: Large fries and small lemonade from Chik-Fil-A.
  • Another Snack: A bite of a double Cheeseburger from BK (the kids demanded dinner from there, and assured me that they had vegetables: lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions. BD was on the phone for this recitation and was very proud of his minions.) Somehow, the cheeseburger was unappealing, so I gave it up as a bad job. And threw it away!
  • Dinner: Bowl of Special K with the red berries (latest addiction - Thanks, Vic!) with SKIM milk. I assume it was a lot, as I used a BAB (big-ass bowl) and filled it 3/4 full.

July 9 - Sunday:

  • Breakfast: Brunch, really - 2 scrambled eggs a la Big Daddy, sandwiched between whole wheat toast (I don't do white bread, and am working on Big Daddy, but he is intransigent. At least it's not Wonderbread), with 1 slice of cheese and a schmear of mayo. Some kind of Twister fruit juice that I later discovered was LOADED with sugar - 29g in 8 oz. No wonder we liked it. I had planned on a bowl of cereal, but BD was bored and !started drinking at 10 am! (unusual, but occasionally he does it - this is the second time in a year - the last time, he painted the top half of my kitchen in a day), and refused to consider anyone having cereal for breakfast. So, he cooked, and I have no problem with that. He did, however, cook me 4 eggs, just like he did for himself. After a bit, he quit drinking and attacked the yard instead. I like it when he gets bored.
  • Snack: a mini-bag of Movie Theater Butter Popcorn. Love those minibags!
  • Dinner: home-made Chinese feast, consisting of steamed rice, fresh broccoli stir fry with onions, and teriyaki chicken and onions. Ate way too much, and it was yummy - even the kids liked it, with the onions removed. Sprite. (But not a bit of tea all day long!)

July 8, Saturday:

  • Breakfast: Bowl of Special K w/berries with (ugh) whole milk.
  • Lunch: Ryans. I hate Ryans, but they like it, so I go. Concentrated on vegetables, and had some fish, and tried to have a huge salad but ran out of stomach. Sweet tea. (Duh.)
  • Dinner: None, as we had a very late lunch, but we all polished off whatever ice cream was in the house.

July 7, Friday:

  • Breakfast: Who knows? That was 4 days ago, and I'm having trouble w/yesterday.
  • Lunch: Big Zax Snack from Zaxby's. Small sweet tea.**Actually, this was Wednesday's lunch, and Wednesday was the day I had lunch with the Crack Whore. Oy. My memory's like a sieve these days.**
  • Dinner: 6 oz steak from Steak Out (small, compared to BD's 12 oz.) Salad, baked potato. More tea.

July 6, Thursday:

  • Breakfast: I think this is the day I played hooky to drive by the Driver's License bureau unsuccessfully. . . nope - this was Friday. Whatever day it was, I went to BK and had the best breakfast - Ham, egg & cheese croissant and small sweet tea. Mmmmmmmm. You know, this has to have been Thurs, because it was the day we took Pam to lunch for her birthday. . .
  • Lunch: At El Sombrero, Mexican joint we don't usually go to because it's farther out. A tiny bit of cheese dip & chips, sweet tea, and the best thing! 2 tortillas sandwiching grilled shrimp, onion, peppers & cheese, served with sour cream and guac and lettuce. Mmmmmm.
  • Dinner: At the Fish 'n' Pig, new restaurant out by the lake that combines the menus of a local homegrown seafood joint and barbeque joint. Mom & Dad hobnob with the BBQ owner, so we took my sister-in-law there for family dinner. I had fried shrimp with cheese grits and a salad, and didn't eat all the cheese grits, and had only a bit of her peanut butter silk pie, but did consume large portions of excellent Sweet Tea.

July 5, Wednesday:

  • Breakfast: Who knows? Might have skipped it. Have been on an F2O kick lately, so think it might have included that, but was probably a Scrambler from Krystal. Am pretty sure it was, actually, because we were running late that day.**Actually, it was leftover potato salad from the day before.**
  • Lunch: Oy. I have no idee. Oh, yeah - out with my old co-worker who is now a crack whore ( I think - maybe not a whore yet, and maybe not at crack yet, but has gone from noble, sophisticated, intelligent, articulate woman to slightly desperate, skinny, faintly unpleasant chick. But we still hang because I am unfortunately loyal) and my protegee. Our protegee. But we are bad mentors, for sure. Anyway, they got to the restaurant late (it is owned by a guy Vic and I drooled over in high school, but I hate the daytime restaurant - pretentious soup, salad, sandwich place that is ridiculously overpriced.) I ordered without them, and had Broc/Cheese soup and roast beef& provolone sandwich with fresh fruit and pickle. And SWT.
  • Dinner: On Wed, Crazy Sis picks the kids up to pay for IB's nextel bill - it's in my name, which is something stupid I did nearly 2 years ago and have been trying to wriggle out of ever since. Anyway, on Wed., BD and I go out (or have 2 weeks running.) This time, we went to Longhorn and had steak, baked potato, vegetables, SWT.
  • Beverage note: I have been making a point to consume at minimum 32 oz of water during the day. It's not a lot, but it's a start.

July 4, Tuesday:

  • Breakfast: I slept until 11 am. Nothing qualifies as breakfast after 10.
  • Lunch: Sandwiches? I have no clue.
  • Dinner: Took my mahvelous baked beans over to Mom's, where we paired it with bbq chicken, potato salad, squash casserole. I tried a diet Dr. Pepper and pronounced it icky. There was cake for dessert, but I skipped it and had seconds of potato salad instead.

Everything before July 4th is a big blur, although at some point in the weekend we had hamburgers on the grill 2 nights in a row - I think Sun. we went over to BD's parents house and grilled out, then had leftovers that we grilled at home on Mon. Mon, I do remember being inspired to use my Fry Daddy for the first time ever and made homemade french fries to go along with the hamburgers and squash/zucchini/tomato saute.

Basically, I appear to eat out. A lot. This seems like a bad thing.

yup--you eat out a lot, and the stuff you are eating, by and large not so good. You may as well just chew a whole stick of butter as consume a fast-food croissant with ham, egg, and cheese... But, I *do* see that you are trying, attempting, to up the veggies and lower, sometimes, the tea. Keep going in that vein and lower the fat and sugar, and you'll be doing good. On drinks--sweet tea, soda, fruit juice--all exceedingly high in sugar. Sugar will make you zoom and crash--which is why you so often find yourself fainting away and only revived by pulling over for a "snack" of LARGE FRIES! (OMG) Avoid any soda of "fruit drink" containing high fructose corn syrup--you and your mom both. This form of sugar is basically something engineered to make you crave it and your body treats it like sugar to the third power. Learn to tolerate if not love diet soft drinks and cut regular fruit juice with the sugar-fee kind (which, to me, taste worse than diet soda--diet soda I like and now I can't tolerate regular soda and its cloying sweetness. Oh--I also like to pour a diet drink in a glass and mix it with a little fruit juice--reg. or low sugar--like diet cream soda and something peachy or diet sprite with cranberry juice.

Your mom's meal at the restaurant really made me shake my head i have to say. Reminds me of the folks who have a large pizza but a diet coke--and feel quite righteous about it... I think you won on nutritional value there.

AND WHO OWNS THE RESTAURANT??? I need hints! I think we drooled over a few people in high-school! If the story of this fella and his restaurant is blog-worthy--do continue this story on SR!!!

"Breakfast: A banana. In the car running errands." --so...did the banana peel end up in the glove compartment? ;-)
