Catching up in the food blog. . . or, at least, I'll try. You know me - mind like a sieve . . .
July 11, Tuesday:
- Breakfast: A strange affair. Mom & I played golf, and I was over at her house at 9:00 unbreakfasted - then had to wait until 10 because she was watering her grass. So, I grazed, eventually settling on peanut butter on a slice of wheat toast, a slice of ham, some cheese and a sprite. Then, we drank tons and tons and tons of water on the golf course.
- Lunch: Local Greasy Spoon with the Best Tea In The World! I had a small, with a slaw dog, a chili dog, and split a fry with Mom. Her sugar went nuts; I was happy.
- Dinner: I have no clue. I remember that Bubba had cub scouts, so I drove the kids through Burger King, but I didn't get myself anything because BD and I were expecting to cook. . .but I dont' remember what I cooked. This might have been the night he wanted spaghetti or sloppy joe's, and I didn't have enough time for good spaghetti. But I did have leftover squash and zucchini, and I picked up a herb roasted chicken at the grocery store - yup. Sauteed squash, zucchini & onion plus 2 small tomatoes and a can of diced tomatoes, put atop rice and topped with a chicken breast. . . very, very, very yummy.
July 11, Wednesday:
- Breakfast: Cereal, I think. This was the day the carpet cleaners were coming at 8 am, so I got up obscenely early to prep the house and get the kids off to camp and me back before 8. I went to McDonald's, I think, because I remember a large sweet tea .. . must have had an egg mcmuffin. (Don't faint, Vic.)
- Lunch: Soup (Broc/cheese again, very thin & not great) and Salad bar at Ruby Tuesday's with Mom. (Large, mega salad with romaine, spinach, ham, egg, cheese, cucumbers, mushrooms, bit of pasta salad, sunflower seeds, salsa & chips, corn/black bean relish & ladle of Ranch.) Sweet tea (I meant to have water, but Mom got there first and ordered me tea.)
- Dinner: Met BD to play golf, and drank tons of water. We were too grubby to go out and eat, and I had to pick up the kids, so he picked up Steak OUt and I had my 6 oz steak over my icky iceberg salad, but didn't have room for the potato, so I put it away.
July 12, Thursday: Back to Work!
- Breakfast: I think it was a Scrambler.
- Lunch: Leftovers! BD didn't finish all his steak, so I brought it, my potato and augmented with fried okra from cafe across the street, with F2O. Mmmmmmm.
- Snack: a Snickers. Sue me.
- Dinner: Leftovers again - don't freak out. Took the chicken and the leftover squash/zucchini stuff from Tues, turned it into soup and ate it like mad. The kids had cereal at Mom's, so I didn't have to cook for them.
July 13, Friday:
- Breakfast: Nothing. Always a bad idea. Ended up having 2 granola bars (90 cal each) at work from my desk. (I have a stash.)
- Lunch: Got invited to have Mexican with the girls, but then BD called me up to eat with him. Had the bottom half of a whopper w/cheese (I am not a bread person), onion rings, some fries, and tea.
- Dinner: The kids were really hungry, so we went to the Chinese buffet - restricted myself to 1 plate, but then had a bowl of fried rice and a spring roll for dessert.
July 14, Saturday:
- Breakfast: Cereal.
- Lunch: Family Reunion buffet mixture, including fresh peas & snaps, redneck caviar, creamed corn, etc.
- Dinner: At O'Charley's with Vic after picking her up from the airport. . . . but I'll wait to see what she makes of it. lol

Well, having renewed my acquaintance with Sweet Tea Suthern-style by tasting Em's at the restaurant, I have to say--why the flying fuck do they even bother calling it tea?? Or even using tea as an ingredient?? A 1/2 pound of sugar dissolved in water would taste the same. I have said this before and I will say it again--getting rid of the sweet tea and/or cozying up to another form of sweetener would not only help you lose weight and stop stressing your pancreas with crazy amounts of blood sugar but also buy you the latitude to occasionally have fried rice and eggroll for "dessert".
I find myself also wondering why, having followed your parents' diet all your life, you think you will somehow escape their diabetic fate if you continue in this vein? (not saying it's all bad, but there are some problems, which you seem to know but do not care to address) And what about the kiddies? They will follow in your footsteps--their palate and relationship/experience with food and nutrition is being formed by you. Jus' sayin'
